No Choice Despite Problems, Risk and Costs
People throughout our state, across America and the world report many problems with these new meters. These include:
Health Problems, CARCINOGENICITY & more
Headaches, fatigue, insomnia, nausea, insomnia, tinnitus, nosebleeds, dizziness, difficulty thinking, chest pain and heart rhythm problems with more serious problems over time: arrhythmias, hearing loss, neurological problems, electromagnetic radiation syndrome, and cancer in some cases.
The radiation used is a Group 2B/Possible Carcinogen. More recent research shows greater carcinogenicity and urges reclassification to Group 2A/Probable Carcinogen or Group 1 Carcinogen.
The "dirty electricity" produced by the power supply is transmitted through the household wiring. These frequencies are in the 2-50 kHz range that are known to cause nerve problems.
eLECTRICAL PROBLEMS AND FIRES
The meters lack surge protection, over-voltage can cause appliance damage and fires. Customers have complained that when there is a fire, the utility comes and immediately clears the damage, removing the evidence. This must change.
Security
Smart Meters can be hacked. Hash the Texas Hacker obtained smart meter data from an entire neighborhood during the Dallas, Texas Ice Storm in 2021. He was able to easily decipher the smart meter data ‘secrets’ that were spilled, as to who got power restored and who didn’t during that prolonged storm event because the levels of data encryption are so weak.
Privacy
Digital "Smart" Meters gather information, all day and night, that could reveal personal habits and routines. This information can be used for surveilance.
Billing Problems
Many people complain of higher bills with these meters. Problems related to the Switch Mode Power Supply (SMPS) in these meters can lead to unexpectedly high energy bills. The "dirty electricity" on the line is a major cost driver. This SMPS is different from others in consumer products because it is placed where the power enters the property rather than a smaller, more "localized" problem.
PROTECT PUBLIC SAFETY & PROPERTY VALUES
Act 50 takes away the rights of municipalities and people. Municipal ordinances can work to retain municipal rights to protect public safety, property values, and more if they are written to be maximally protective.
PROTECT CHILDREN & STAFF IN SCHOOLS
The science is clear that there are harmful biological effects of using wireless technology. Schools can take positive steps and implement policies that protect children. Wired technology is fast, safe and secure. Children can learn to make safer choices about their technology use, such as keeping laptops on tables or desktops and by using airplane mode and wired connections.
